Healthcare Providers

You can help patients quit!

As a healthcare provider you play an important role in helping Asian language-speaking patients quit smoking and lead healthier lives. When health care providers offer brief, simple advice about quitting smoking, they increase the likelihood that patients will quit and remain quit a year later.

According to the Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence Clinical Practice Guideline, 2008 Update, “Telephone quitline counseling is effective with diverse populations and has broad reach. Therefore, both clinicians and health care delivery systems should ensure patient access to quitlines and promote quitline use.”

In addition to telling your patients about the Asian Smokers’ Quitline (ASQ) free quit smoking services, here are some ways to make it easier for you to help patients quit smoking:

Web-based referral

This online service provides health professionals with a quick and easy method for referring patients to ASQ. Refer your Asian language-speaking patients to us, we’ll call them within 2 business days to provide free telephone counseling, free self-help materials, and free nicotine patches to eligible clients.
